Bishop Olson Meets with Pope Francis

Bishop Michael F. Olson met with Pope Francis Thursday, September 18, 2014 as part of a delegation of new bishops who have been appointed by the Pope in the last year. Bishop Olson has been in Rome attending a conference for the new bishops who are from around the world.

Pope Francis addressed the delegation of bishops, telling them “nothing is more important than introducing people to God!” During the Papal session, Bishop Olson met individually with Pope Francis.

In addition to Bishop Olson, Pueblo, Colorado Bishop Stephen J. Berg, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth and former Fort Worth Diocese vicar general, and San Angelo Bishop Michael J. Sis attended the bishops’ conference. (CNS photo/L'Osservatore Romano)

FORT WORTH -- Gabe Gutiérrez clearly remembers an exciting summer night in Rio de Janeiro, surrounded by 3 million spirited youth at Copacabana Beach, where it embraces the Atlantic Ocean in a 2.5 mile-long sandy crescent. At one end, Sugarloaf Mountain rises straight up from the water’s edge. “And the silence was deafening,” recalled, Gutiérrez, high school youth and young adult minister for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Keller.

Diocese to sponsor its first Family Life Conference Nov. 1 in Grapevine

Over the years, the Diocese of Fort Worth has sponsored conferences for married couples, for men, for women, and even for mothers and their daughters, and fathers and their sons, among many others. This year, the diocese will sponsor a new conference: the first Family Life Conference will be held Nov. 1, All Saints Day, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Grapevine.

(CNS) -- More than 2,200 people packed the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark Oct. 4 to celebrate the first beatification liturgy in the United States. Sister Miriam Teresa Demjanovich, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth from Bayonne, was given the title "blessed" in a joyful ceremony conducted in three languages -- English, Latin and Slovak.
