Immaculate Conception Catholic School recently won its 12th North Texas Independent League Academic championship in 13 years during the meet held Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart School in Muenster. ICCS finished first with 564 points; St. Mary's in Gainesville was second with 417 points; Tioga was third with 279 points; Sacred Heart in Muenster placed fourth with 236 points.
The North Texas Independent League began in the North Central Texas area in the early 90s. The league was created to give students in various North Texas schools, which include public, non-public, and homeschool, an opportunity to have registered competitions in academics and athletics. The NTIL offers competitions in volleyball, basketball, track, and academics. ICCS, which opened in 1995, joined the NTIL in 2001.
The NTIL also provides a wonderful opportunity for Immaculate Conception School, Sacred Heart School, and St. Mary's School to interact on an ongoing basis throughout the school year in all of the NTIL activities. It provides many opportunities for fellowship and the development of relationships among the diocesan schools.
ICCS “Top Knights”, who attained high individual point totals at the NTIL Meet, included Jillian Josefsberg and Marga Del Mundo, both with 52 points, and Brandy Sorrells scoring third highest at 34 points. Other high scorers included Bret Sorrels with 30 points and Will Davey with 27 points.
