Fr. Gonzalo Martinez Morales passed away April 30 after a lengthy illness

Father Gonzalo Martinez Morales, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, died April 30 after a lengthy illness. Vigil services will be observed at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at Most Blesssed Sacrament Church, 2100 N. Davis Dr., in Arlington. A shared meal will follow in the Parish Hall immediately following the Vigil. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m.Tuesday, May 5 at Most Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow Mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Priests and deacons are requested to bring an alb if planning to concelebrate.

Fr. Morales was born in Hart, Texas to Concepcion Morales and Mary (Martinez) Morales Aug. 12, 1958. He attended Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio and graduated in 1981 with a degree in Latin American studies; he then completed seminary studies at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio. Ordained May 18, 1985 at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Lewisville, Texas by Bishop Joseph Delaney, he served as parochial vicar at St Patrick Cathedral in downtown Fort Worth from 1985 until 1988.

Fr. Morales served as director of vocations for the Diocese of Fort Worth from August of 1989 to November of 1995. He also served as associate pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Denton from 1988 until 1994, when he was assigned to serve as pastor of the cluster of parishes that includes Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Decatur; St. John the Baptizer Church in Bridgeport, and St. Mary Church in Jacksboro.

Fr. Morales served as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Arlington from 2002 to 2003, when he became parochial vicar at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Arlington. He then served as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mineral Wells and St. Francis of Assisi Church in Graford from 2006 to 2008.

Fr. Morales' final assignment was to serve as parochial vicar of St. Francis Cabrini Church in Granbury and St. Rose of Lima Church in Glen Rose from 2008 through 2013 and as parochial vicar of Holy Angels Church in Clifton and at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Morgan during the same time period.
